I was referred here by Michelle Mischkulnig (one of the Artist's that exhibit in, and I believe run/staff the gallery), when I had contacted her asking about where I could purchase some of her textile art. The two ladies that were there on the day were lovely, both very friendly, and it felt like they were simply there to just 'say hello'.
Although there are works for sale here, it would certainly be a place that I will visit again every once in a while just to view that the art that is displayed here.
I did purchase a piece of Michelle's, and was delighted when without asking, the piece was wrapped meticulously in tissue paper, and finished with a bow made of raffia & a tasteful sticker with the Stonehouse Gallery logo on it.
This is one of the best Art and Craft Galleries I've seen in a long time. Housed in the historical Gospel Chapel right alongside the Yarra River in Warrandyte, the gallery carries a huge variety of quality hand made Australian art and craft. The staff are actually some of the artists who make the work. They are warm, welcoming and have a wealth of information about the work in the gallery. I found the prices reasonable considering everything is unique and hand made.
The Gallery also has exhibitions every month so there is always something new and exciting to see.
If you love art, craft or just love looking at beautiful things it's well worth a visit.
This may at first appear to be a shop selling particularly beautiful homewares and jewellery. But don't be fooled - as the name suggests, it is primarily a gallery. Those looking for a simple gift shop will be sorely outraged at the high prices, which would be unreasonable for mass-produced trinkets, but are quite fitting for hand-made Australian artworks. No two products are completely alike, and there are changing exhibitions by each months featured local artist. The business is actually run by the artists themselves - they take turns behind the counter - which means that the staff are especially friendly and knowledgeable. I couldn't afford anything, but recommend the Stonehouse Gallery to patrons of the arts who arent constrained by budget.
