Straight line tiling

I had a bathroom tiled, and it also had a recessed shower shelf. The finish around the recess was terrible, the tiles were badly chipped and the biscuit exposed. When I queried the tiler he got very defensive and said if I didn’t pay him he would rip all the tiles off and I could start again (I never said anything about not paying - a strange reaction I thought). Overall he did a terrible job with the edges in many places, was distressing to deal with and it cost me a lot of money to have it all fixed.
