Swimstruct
What distinguishes Swimstruct from other 'Learn to swim' programs?
Ian Dickson, who organises and conducts the classes, has had a career in education and has been conducting swimming classes for pre-school, school-age children and adults in the Karrinyup area of Perth, Western Australia, during the summer months of December, January and February for the past forty years.
Springboard diving classes are also available for school-age children and are conducted in a dedicated diving pool.
The 'learn to swim' program is uniquely structured and targets the needs of children at the various ages and stages of their swimming development.
Types of classes available reflect those needs:
Toddlers of two and three years, together with their parents, are in groups of three for a twenty minute lesson
Pre-school children (four, five and six year olds) are taught on a one-to-one basis in a twenty minute lesson
School-age children have the option of a one-to-one lesson or a group class of between two and six children, depending on age and stage attained.
Swimstruct offers a uniquely structured training group for those who have graduated through the Swimstruct 'learn to swim' program or who have attained elsewhere an equivalent level of proficiency.
All teachers employed by Swimstruct are:
Austswim or R.L.S.S.W.A. accredited and familiarised with Swimstruct program requirements before taking up their teaching appointments
Chosen for their ability to communicate in a warm, encouraging and enthusiastic manner and to employ effective teaching strategies.
Whilst the programs are uniquely structured, the teaching of the 'essential water skills' and 'stroking techniques' is direct and orthodox.
A comprehensive certification system acknowledges progress made at the various stages in the different programs offered.
