I’m not really sure if you can consider this to be Australia’s premier zoo, but it is pretty up there when it comes to the standards to be set. Well, it is still a zoo, and after you visit enough of them they do all end up pretty much being the same, though that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is bad by a long shot. The thing with zoos though, or at least the good ones, is that you might not actually see all the animals, which is actually quite good for the animals (though not so much for the visitors). Oh, and they also have a chairlift, and a shuttle bus, to take you up the hill to the main entrance if you really aren’t all that keen on climbing heaps of stairs.

I love love love love this place.

I was heartbroken when my work no longer sponsored it so I couldn't go free 5 times a year.

As zoo's go, it's pretty awesome. I love the meer kats. The lizards. The snakes. The pidey's. The seals!! Omg, the penguins! Oh and of course there's the big cats that always are a great view. Just wish the glass enclosure was a bit better designed. I'm tired of getting elbowed in the head waiting for my go to view them. Bloody tall people. They never look down.

The food is totally overpriced and if you're happy paying $3.50 for a bottle of water then great. We did however just take our own water bottles and refill there.

Oh and the views are amazeballs.

We were very fortunate to attend the 100th birthday celebrations today!! There was so much fanfare when you arrived. Gifts like picnic sheets, stilt walkers, photos and a zoo gift on arrival. We received some lovely pens. The music was great too and the vintage cars to remind us of the history. Loads of visitors and loads of volunteers in what was a really buzzing atmosphere.

We took a bit of a different route today in the zoo and found some fantastic new areas. There is a lush exhibit for the fishing cats and gorgeous little mini hippos which you can watch above ground and in the water. But best of all we found an area behind the elephant enclosure where they are washed and you can queue to have a photo and pat, I'm sure this is an extra charge but a fun opportunity none the less!

Came here at night during the Vivid festival. They have a special display of giant animal lanterns akin a special walk in the Zoo.
Costs $17 but is worth it as tickets are limited so it isn't too crowded and is a unique experience! Great views of the city from the zoo and it is pretty special seeing he giraffes out at night with a stunning rainbow of city lights as a backdrop.
Super pram friendly too!
