Great Ramen, plenty of options available and a large variety of sides (inc. karaage chicken etc.). Big portion sizes too

The new Queen Street store has a very cool vibe and delivers the same famous Taro's quality. They have happy hour specials (some $5 sides) and double card stamps on the weekend.

I can't really understand how this place doesn't have better reviews. We're very fond of getting in here (when we can manage to get into the city for it), it's one of my husband's favourite restaurants. I'm not a ramen addict, but usually defer to their chicken curry option when I'm not in the mood for soup. I have to say however that on having had the ramen, it's one of the best quality ones I've found in Brisbane thus far; the difference in ingredients is noticable, without the overwhelming MSG addition in a lot of other ramen-yas. Fortunately, they've now opened another one at Ascot which is much easier to get at for parking - so we now head there far more often!

I always try to squeeze in Japanese food whenever i travel. So finding a recommended place on short notice can be hard to accommodate. I have a few favourites in Brisbane but given the location and short notice, Taro's Ramen and Cafe was the closest and quickest to get to. They were full but were quick with people eating and leaving shortly after they finish and staff were quick at cleaning up and wiping down tables to let the next lot of people seated. I usually order the standard Ramens at any Japanese restaurant but this time i ordered a bit of a spicy one. The broth was good but not enough meat. Noodles were plenty but not enough meat to evenly divide with the amount of spoon full of noodles. Order was quick and all you can hear is slurp slurp and cutlery banging against each other. A few chit chat here and there. Overall experience is average. Wouldn't say my favourite but wouldn't say it was bad either.

I am unimpressed when we are left standing for 5 minutes - I checked my watch - without service at the counter. When my wife asks for tapas as advertised but the offering is anything but. When the staff member appears confused about business. Oh and the business cards are the old Adelaide St address scribbled out and 288 Edward hand written. Folks,m you are NOT READY
