You must go here for dinner! We went on a cold winter Friday night, and were the first in the restaurant. The staff were so kind and friendly, however beware the older guy at the wine tasting bar. His jokes are terrible and you want to ground to open up and swallow you so you don't have to fake laugh!
The food was fabulous. A hearty pea and ham soup was perfect in the weather. The scallops and prawns were to die for. And save room for a sticky date dessert! All washed down with a local wine, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to all my friends when you're in the Hunter Valley
Love the wines from Tatler. We first visited in January 2012 and then again a few weeks back. Was really impressed with the service at the cellar door both times, and managed to eat at the Tatler restaurant/cafe the second time. (It was under renovations the first time.) I love the Frizzante Semillon, especially served in a glass with ice and some lemon. Another favourite from this winery is the Nonpariel Reserve Shiraz, though you can get equal or better South Australian shiraz for much less.
The food at the restaurant/cafe is good, but definitely on the pricey side for what it's worth. We visited with a large group of 14, so service was extremely slow, but it's hardly anything to judge them by. Smaller groups seemed to have no issues with waiting for dishes.
Would still revisit (or take visitors) when we are back in the Hunter.
