Tha Fish

This seafood restaurant is in the pier of the marina. There's a number of restaurants along this pier, but this one was quite busy comparatively, so presuming that translates to it being good, we decided to go. Unfortunately it was full, but the lovely man said to put our name down and come back in 45 mins. We went for a drink
and did just that. The menu has starters, entrees, mains and a fish selection. We shared the whitebait, lightly dusted and was nice start to the evening. We all couldn't go past the fish option where you select a fish and your choice of cooking. One of us got the trout, with a lovely Indian flavour which was the staff suggestion - incredible. I went for a barramundi which sat atop udon noodles in a broth and lotus chips, this had gentle flavours and a lovely combination. My Fiance' and I enjoyed one of our best best nights out for dinner at this restaurant. We rang up to book, only to be told that Tha Fish was booked out for a private function with a set tasting menu. But we were then offered a table, if we were ok with eating the set menu which they read over the phone. It sounded really good so we went along. We didn't realise it was actually a special night that the restaurant had put on, to showcase some of the amazing things they can do with fresh seafood and local produce. It was an invite only event, packed with cairns local suppliers and other restaurant owners. Most people knew each other, but made us feel very welcome. Everyone was so friendly and the staff put on the best service I've ever received, and the chefs cooked the most amazing food. It was a night we'll never forget, and will be returning to this restaurant next time we visit cairns.

We are Cairns locals and regular customers at most of our city and beaches restaurants. We rate Tha Fish very highly indeed. Not only is the food fresh, carefully prepared, beautifully presented, but the setting is one of the best in Cairns. On the boardwalk the al fresco restaurant gives you views of trinity inlet, the passing boats with a backdrop of the East Trinity hills. Our first visit there was so enjoyable we invited six of our local friends to join us there the following week. On booking, the dish we particularly loved was not available (all the fish is locally caught) but other options were just a delicious so we confirmed the booking anyway. But chef went to the trouble to source and have have available our favourite dish that day, we were very impressed. Since then Tha Fish has become the prefered seafood restaurant for all our friends and we always take our overseas and interstae visitors to enjoy the experience.
