The â??Thai No.1â?? restaurant is considered by many local Ashfield residents to be just that, number one for taste but with a $6.90 lunch menu also number one for value.
The restaurant has a BYO policy so feel free to bring a bottle from home to enjoy with your meal. As expected, the menu contains all the quintessential Thai dishes: Pad Thai, Laksa, Massamun Beef and of course spicy Red and Green Curry. Grab some take away or enjoy a budget friendly dining experience without the unneeded frills.

Thai 1 has got to be my new favourite Thai..They sell very fresh food, extremely well priced, with GENEROUS deals like 2 for $29, including 3 entrees each (i.e. x2), two dinner meals of your choice, desert and drinks; oh and delivered - FREE too! The delivery people are very quick and pleasant too! As are the staff in-house. My one irritation with the place would be, they only accept cash...this day in age...both for dining in and delivery...
In terms of dining in, whilst the food is delicious, it would probably be a bad idea to take a date there - as you'd probably look a bit cheap..but this is good cheap! Maybe just stick with the take-away but either way BEST VALUE FOR MONEY 5 STARS!
One Thursday evening a couple of weeks ago we decided that the hot weather warranted cold beers and Thai takeaway. While they do offer delivery, this little place is only a 10-15min walk from my friends place so we decided to call ahead and order and then wander over to pick it up. The take-away menu is not huge but extensive enough for take-away and encompasses all of the favourites (our favourites anyway!). Ordering was easy with staff being polite and helpful. When we got there we only had to wait about 5 more minutes for our meals to be ready. My friend is a vegetarian so we only ordered vegetarian dishes satay tofu, tofu pad see eew (not listed under vegetarian options but they were happy to oblige) and tofu with cashew nuts. Each dish was fresh and tasty, the satay tofu was as good as Ive had anywhere and the noodles were great with generous servings of tofu and vegetables. If you're ever in the Ashfield area, this is good tucker.
For a really good feed that is priced within budget and still get that really nice taste of Thai that you'd normally find from snobby places, you cannot miss Thai No.1. Whether you're eating in or getting a take-away, the food tastes so good it's easy to remember number 1 to stand for quality Thai.
