The Baden Powell Hotel

Open fire, local micro brewed beer and great menu including pizzas cooked on stone

The Baden Powell Hotel is located only a few minutes from the Melbourne CBD and occupies a prominent corner and Victorian Terrace dating back to 1878. The Hotel acts as a historic landmark in the area and has been trading as a pub for over 130 years. Purchased by a couple of local publicans in 2008, the Hotel has undergone extensive renovation to include a private event space, two main dining rooms, a formal outdoor courtyard, three bars and eleven boutique rooms available for short-term accommodation. The resulting style and ambience reflects its heritage and surrounding's a classic pub with modern hospitality.
The ethos behind hospitality at The Baden Powell Hotel is simple: great food and drinks in a welcoming and homely atmosphere. Our menu, designed by Head Chef Raymond Larkins, focuses on classic and contemporary Italian food, produce driven and well executed. The heart of the kitchen is our Italian-made pizza oven, in which we cook our dough direct on stone. Thin pastry pizzas are topped with artisan produce and served bianco or tomato based with your own pizza slicer and a side of chilli oil. A list of specials changes daily and a sharing menu compliments mains.
Drinks at the Baden Powell Hotel are vast, interesting and varied. Beer is a pretty serious business, with eight local micro-brewed beers available on tap, served in correct glassware at the right temperature. A supplementary international bottled list exceeds fifty, varying in style and region. Our wine list is kept lean, focusing on Australasia and Italy's obscure and interesting varietals, and twelve house cocktails are made to order with seasonal fruits, spices and herbs. Our staff are informative, quick and, above all,

I can't really call this a pub, it is more of a fancy restaurant with a bar at the front to have some pre (and post) dinner drinks. A quick look at the menu tells me that the food here isn't cheap, but then again I didn't come here for a snack, I came here with a friend for a drink (namely because we were wondering down Victoria Parade having some drinks at the pubs there). There wasn't even a decent outdoor area, more of a smokers cage so they don't have to stand out the front scaring off all the clientele.
