The Bakery is small and the prices are small, but the smallness ends there. They are located close to a large playground; they have a large range of sweet treats to choose from, and a large, shady outdoor seating area from which customers can watch bakery employees filling a large wheelbarrow with wood for their large, wood-fired oven. Everything I've sampled so far has been vibrant and delicious, with the exception of their Portuguese egg custard tarts. I suspect that the wood-fire smoke gives them an alarmingly soapy taste. Their macadamia slice is rich but exquisite, and the staff are perfectly cheerful about cutting cakes in half for those who can't resist trying everything. I recommend Warrandyte's bakery as an unpretentiously excellent eatery for those who can get there (and for those who can find it, with a distinctive name like 'The Bakery'). My advice would be to pick a day with pleasant weather, so you can enjoy the leafy surrounds of outdoor dining.
