The Barramundi was good but not the greatest. The chips were very good and I did enjoy them. The salad was OK. the sauces were all dull. But enjoyable indeed. The next night we came back for souvlakia - same venue except now split into the Souvlaki Bar section. Average but OK. Next time, Barra Bar again.
I have bought fish & chips at the Barra Bar many times, and they have always been of the highest standard.
They also serve Yiros, and salads, and they look pretty good too.
When I was there a few days ago, Friday, I was told that they were open until 5:00am - maybe that's not every night - I'll ask next time.
Barra Bar is in the heart of the CBD & Tourist Precinct, so parking can be an issue. The trick is, drive up Knuckey Street, past the Police Station, and turn into the underground car-park. the first two hours' parking is free. Take the escalator back to ground level, and cross Mitchell Street, and you're at the Barra Bar.
There are tables & chairs at the Barra Bar, but there are alco ample parks within 500 metres.
I think I just died and went to fish heaven! The best barra I've ever had. The service was great, I enquired about serving sizes with what I presumed was the owner, he made a joke about my pregnant stomach vs 'putting on a few' and ' some sick type of cravin', it lightened the mood and made the wait worth it- cheeky bugger! I would suggest eating in as chips got cold by time I got back to hotel. Range of chip varieties (chilli cheese looked fab) and other food. Price looked ex-ie at $ 9 per small serve of barra however serve with chips ($ 16) was heaps and I have paid much more for imported fish in a restaurant which was not half as good. I'll be back, Yummo!
We were in Darwin a couple of weeks ago and ate at The Barra Bar. I had grilled barramundi and salad and it was sensational. The fish was juicy and tasty and the salad fresh and delicious. We were with a few friends and some had crumbed barra and some battered and they couldn't stop raving about how good it was. I will definitely go back.
