The Big Pineapple

The Big Pineapple has been recognised by the National Trust of Queensland as a national icon in recognition of its significant role in the tourism industry.

Set on 80 hectares The Big Pineapple is a working Queensland pineapple plantation nestled against a sub tropical forest backdrop.

You can experience the plantation aboard the unique train as it tours past exotic fruit trees, sub tropical rainforest and visits the wildlife reserve where you can observe Australian native wildlife animals and birds. These include koalas, wombats, emus, owls and much more. The Animal Nursery is a great children's favourite where they can touch and feed all the baby animals.

Ride on the Nutmobile as it tours leisurely through the mature macadamia orchid. Enjoy the tropical views from the family restaurant while enjoying the famous parfaits and sundaes.

The large gift shop has an extensive variety of souvenirs, jewellery, gifts, confectionery and a unique range of The Big Pineapple jams, sauces, condiments and the famous homemade biscuits, which are made in their very own bakery. The Big Pineapple has various room hire facilities available.

Admission is free to The Big Pineapple. Enquire about the family tour passes or Special Group

Absolutely boring. Yes you get to take a picture with a massive pineapple to say you have been there and seen it. But other than that there really isn't anything spectacular about this attraction. I stopped for less than 30mins just to take photos and then left. Yes you can buy some pineapple stuff and souvenir but i think a photo is a good enough memory captured. You can also pay to look at some wildlife Australian animals but you rather go Australia Zoo and get the whole Steve Irwin experience.

We visited the big pineapple on our last trip to Qld and found it very disappointing. Firstly there was hardly a soul around (during school holidays), secondly the train ride was very bumpy and short and did not justify the prices charged for it. Thirdly the food court should have offered much more variety in pineapple based products and tastings from the plantation. And last but not least the souvenier shop did not stock t.shirts or products you could buy to wear and advertise where you have been, it was uninviting and uninteresting. For a nationally renowned icon this place should have been jumping with crowds of people and offering so much more for customers than what they had. The only good thing was the jam, but even that you cannot order to be sent to you - very very upsetting and disappointing. We will not be coming back!!!!

A very pretty part of the countryside. The kids enjoyed the climb up inside the big pineapple to the viewing platform at the top. As you ascend the stairs there are some historical facts about the canning of pineapple and the evolution of Golden Circle. A few long forgotten discontinued golden circle products from childhood & original labeling etc. made for an interesting walk down memory lane. The view from the top of the pineapple was pretty, and a great photo opportunity other than the obvious one in front of the big pineapple. The gift shop is extensive and not junky souvenir lines. My daughters enjoyed a dessert sundae and the coffee was good, enjoyed sitting out on the deck overlooking the plantation. We haven't been before so I cannot comment on any changes about loss of appeal etc. We had a wonderful time, but then life is what you choose to make of it and everything should be fun when on holiday! The young guys we encountered working the food were very friendly.

It was fun, but not as fun as it use to be. Definetely go on tour, and train ride. It's interesting but fun for the little ones. Food isn't that great. Parking isn't a problem. Plus finding the big pineapple isn't hard to find! ;)

The Big Pineapple has been a feature on the Sunshine Coast for many years. On this trip to it, I found it has lost it's attraction but that may be different on a holidays. The Banana Split is more than one person can eat. Parking was great, I parked at the front gate.
