There aren't many places like this around any more, and considering the things that seem to keep kids occupied these days, I'm actually pretty glad that this place is still around. Basically the toy factory builds and sells good, old fashioned, wooden toys. You can either by them pre-made, or you can buy a set that you can build yourself. Okay, they aren't exactly the cheapest toys that you can buy (but then again I'm not really able to compare all that much considering that I generally don't buy toys anymore anyway). They also have an animal sanctuary connected to it, with peacocks of all creatures. Oh, I should mention the giant rocking horse, which is an icon up in the area, but it's basically there to lure tourists (with kids) into the toy factory. Mind you, it is a great place to bring the kids, especially with the animal sanctuary, because they can also wander around playing with the animals.

This really is unique - who'd believe that the largest rocking horse in the world is right in the middle of the Adelaide Hills?
We love bringing our kids here and visitors from elsewhere in the world, especially because the park next to it has some wildlife and nice scenery.
The climb to the top of the rocking horse takes a bit and is very steep so make sure you're fit enough and not scared of heights, it is pretty tall. It costs a few dollars from memory but they'll give you a certificate to say you've climbed it if you ask. It doesn't actually rock though, so don't be worried about movement!
The toy factory part used to be more interesting til it became more commercial in my opinion, but there's still lots of handmade wooden toys that are a bit fun to play with.

Good place to take the kids for a day during the holidays. You can climb the big rocking horse and the kids get a certificate to say that they did. There is also a toy shop which sells old-fashioned wooden toys. Its a fair way out so a trip to the Birdwood motor museum is usually included to fill in the day and make the trip a bit more worthwhile when we do it.
