Unique conference and accommodation facilitiesFrom 1832 to 1984 the North Head Quarantine Station helped keep contagious diseases spreading throughout Sydney. If you were on a ship thought to be carrying diseases you put into quarantine.
Today it's open to a hotel, conference centre and restaurant complex known as Q Station. Part of the Sydney Harbour National Park it's also home to penguins, fantastic views and ghost sightings.

Did you know we actually have penguins in Sydney? You’ll find them on the shores of North Head. There are truly amazing views too from Q Station, an historic immigration site which was used to incarcerate newcomers to Australia for over a century, from 1788 when Captain Hunter and Lieutenant Bradley landed on Quarantine Beach. The listed National Park property now runs ghost tours through its spooky surrounds. Just step into the old shower block where the poor quarantined people were washed with carbolic soap and hosed down with chemicals and you are transported back to a hideous time in world travel! Took my French exchange student here for a weekend lunch, it is a unique setting, very pretty, and of course, the whole quarantine displays are fascinating for anyone, particularly a French teen. Food was good, building lovely. Really a great place to take an overseas visitor .
Highly recommend! We stayed here on a Saturday night and had a very pleasing experience. The staff are very friendly and very attentive. We purchased our package from hotels.com which also included full buffet breakfast which is very difficult to find in most hotels in Sydney. The national park is very scenic and relaxing, you can walk down to a private beach or eat at the resturant called The Boilerhouse. You can't drive your car around the national park so they provide a free shuttle bus to and from Manly which is really convenient. I will definately coming back to this retreat and will make some time to do one of their ghost tours.
