The Book Kitchen
It has been many years since the last time I went to The Book Kitchen, and this place still has the same atmosphere as I could remembered it, with only a minor decor tweaks here and there with new elements to refresh its old age look and feel. With one section filled with cookbooks for sale, this place gives a unique feel to an otherwise normal cafe.
The price range at this place is a bit on the premium end with relatively small portion sizes. For example, their bacon & egg rolls are $12 a pop and the black wild rice breakfast dish at $13. However, the roll hd great presentation and came with nice salsa sauce, making it a different style of their own, and the wild rice dish was also nice and full of presentation.
It did not take long for the food to be prepared. The staffs were very friendly and quite attentive too.
This converted garage just off leafy Burke St, Surry Hills is one cute cafe. I love coming here for brunch. This airy, welcoming space contains floor to ceiling book shelves stocked full of cook books and pre-loved novels for sale. The waitress is very friendly and attentive and immediately brings us some chilled tap water. We sit and enjoy watching people pass by on the street, catch up on each others gossip and peruse the weekend paper. Our meals are amazing. My friend has the date and fig pikelets which come with poached pear, rhubarb and vanilla ricotta. I am envious. However, my ...read more
My friend introduced me to this place and we had a brunch on one Saturday afternoon. It was a very nice place and although it was busy, it was nowhere crowded. I was able to enjoy the space and the atmosphere of the place, which feels very comfortable and relaxing.
I ordered caesar salad with pork belly and egg benedict. From the first bite I was totally in love with the combination and they go well together without overpowering each other. Price wise, it is still in an acceptable premium range, considering its standard serving size.
I am definitely coming back to try their other food offerings.
Went here on the weekend - was freezing and raining outside and went in (for the first time) and it was a sanctuary!! - great coffee, great pancakes with pears and strawberrues, and also muffins with mixed berries and white chocolate. Yum. Great venue looking forward to having a lunch there and glass of wine
