With the number of bars and pubs in such a small area, it is difficult to work out which is the best, and unfortunately, while this place was nice, it really didn’t come close to some of the others that I had visited. Sure, they had some nice beers, and surprisingly for a Friday, it was rather quiet. Still, this pub was okay, and I’d go back again, particularly since it was rather quiet when I was there. However, it really isn’t up there with my favourite Surry Hills pubs.
The roasted heirloom carrots with tahini and coconut yoghurt was sublime; so much flavour and texture packed into this must-order appetiser (which also happens to be vegan). The Steak Sambo that was an Australia Day special that sold out, is now a permanent fixture on their menu, and for good reason. Succulent rump steak sits atop a fluffy bread roll with sautéed onions and mushrooms with a spiced aioli. The chicken parmigiana is a classic done well, as is the dark chocolate brownie dessert.
This place exceeded my expectation!
I was expecting a typical too-cool-for-school Surrey hills place with average service and overpriced food. But instead I found the service to be super friendly, although a bit slow when we were going to pay the bill. The wine list was very cheap, with a great sav blanc for 40 dollars. The food was exquisite and it was really hard to chose because everything looked good. Highlight was the BBQ swordfish!
The room was great- cosy with a great atmosphere and morrocon tiles on the walls.
Well done on the renovation
The front is a typical trendy pub with a good wine list and plenty of beers to choose from. While out back in the restaurant, with a fun filled and yummy Spanish menu. Everything won't disappoint. Try the $10 burgers on Wednesday but get in early as the tables fill up quickly.
