Sorta not here nor there about this pub. It's been redone inside which is obvious.
There's more sparkly metal bits and a fireplace that doesn't look like a real fire but possibly could be. I didn't get closer to see as it was a warm day anyway.
Food is a bit pricey for what you're getting - you can't order drinks at the food ordering table. You have to order at the bar, which means that if you have no cash on you, you're forced to find an ATM and get some money out.
Apart from that they have a huge set up of tables on the upper level. The bathrooms are clean and the food was ok.
And because the food is just ok, that should tell you about the price to food comparison. I don't mind paying for good food. Except it's not really.
But I do say it would be cosy in here in winter.
Really ambient atmosphere at night with the bar one level up and overlooking he open kitchen and restaurant. It's dimly lit for that nice intimate feel. The staff are really on the ball, making sure your table is cleared when you've finished eating or drinking. We shared a bottle of white with fried chips and a cheese platter. The platter wasn't anything special and was very basic compared to other places.
The Dolphin hotel has been a popular Surry Hills venue for a long time as a bar, and restaurant. It is pretty casual; a few different bars and eating spaces. I was there for a party so we got pizzas, I had the tomato and prosciutto one which was very good, as well as the tomato only. They were traditional Italian style, base not too thick, with tomato base and topping. As for drinks, I tried a few different cocktails that were all really good and pretty cheap for the area. I'm not much of a designer but not a fan of the new renovations... looks like paper wrapping the walls. It's a cool venue for a party.
Dolphin Hotel was known to be a dud place. But then they had a major renovation and it was no longer underrated. It now sports a very beautiful, modern-like atmosphere with its modern Scandi-European style decor with lots of artistic wall arts. In the evening, the low-light yellow ambiance makes it very calming and gives it even more of a premium look.
The hotel consists of two levels. The ground level was reserved for fine-dining style occasion, whilst the upper level has a more casual feel with lounge seats, pool table, a bar, and an outdoor terrace with leafy and lush ...read more
