The Dry Dock Hotel

The first thing I noticed as I approached this place was that it was billed as Balmain's oldest licensed pub (something that pubs in Sydney seem to like to do). Mind you, it wasn't all that fantastic, rather it was one of those nice local pubs. Being in the middle of the suburb, and on the back streets at that, it certainly isn't the easiest of pubs to get to, though the patrons inside, and the bar tender, were quite friendly. It was pretty cool seeing this dog run around the front bar, though the poor thing had just had an operation on its leg. Still, I found this to be a rather quiet place where I could sit with a beer and a book enjoying the atmosphere, though it seems to be a place more for the locals than for tourists to stumble across (not that many tourists land up here).

Good pub grub and good wine and beer selections, cheery staff.

The Dry Dock is my new favourite drinking spot in Balmain. Beers remain reasonably priced, and theres some quality pub grub on offer. This is unfortunately one of the last remaining traditional pubs left in Balmain. It may be a little rough around the edges, but a real hidden gem
