The Emerald Peacock
The Emerald Peacock in Melbourne is classy cocktail and lounge bar with its own unique charm.
Enjoy a meal, drink or even high tea. Head upstairs to the Rooftop for a scenic view of the Melbourne skyline.
Check the website for more details, including functions.
If you’re looking for a more modern take on a traditional high tea (sans scones, blue-rinsed ladies and over-brewed tea), grab a couple of friends and head to The Emerald Peacock. More Sex and the City than Pride and Prejudice, this high tea is held between 2-5pm every Saturday on the bar’s scenic rooftop, or in its cosy lounge if the Melbourne weather is inclement. The Chandon Girls’ Picnic serves tea according to the $45 per head set menu which includes fresh bread rolls stuffed with delicious ingredients, light as a feather butterfly cakes and melt in your mouth yoyo’s and, of course, a glass of Chandon NV Brut ...read more
Always a popular choice for after work drinks. There were minimal seats available downstairs and also upstairs. We initially sat downstairs in one of the booths but was later told that we had to leave as there was a booking for that table. We headed upstairs and struggled to find a place to have a drink. They do not offer specials on drinks/ happy hour. The line was not too long but was short either to get a drink. Bartenders was friendly and there's a few waitresses walking the floor to takeaway empty cups. They do have a menu for food as well which looks nice and good to complement with a few beers if you get hungry. Overall, not a bad place to go for a few drinks with mates in the city.
If there is one reason that I really like this place and that is it's rooftop garden. I remember sitting at another bar on a taller building looking down at this place wandering what pub it happened to be so I decided to find out, and I am glad that I did. You get to it through a non-descript door on Lonsdale Street and then ascend some stairs where you are on the first floor, however to get to the roof you go up another set of stairs. The first floor is pretty cool in itself with lots of little alcoves to hide in with your friends, however it is the roof that draws me to this place. Okay it may not be as high up as the rooftop bar, but they make themselves distinct from that place by having some decent shelter where there is also a bar. Okay, I may not come here as often as I like, but I still quite like sitting on the roof with a glass of beer. Their prices may not be the cheapest, but as I've said, it is the roof that attracts me.
This place is average, a bit on the small side especially the roof top as there is so many people. It plays reasonable music. The one thing I do not like about it is they have a water station which is basically a open jug of water and cups sitting on a table where everyone can access; I don't like this as anyone can put anything into the water and you don't know what you are drinking.
