Hahndorf Inn is situated midway on the Main Street of Hahndorf. Advertisers this is the South Australia taste of Germany. The building is Barn style, large wooden beams, with an inviting main bar of bolted slabs of timber. The setting is varied, with a large alfresco area with a long the street frontage. Just walking past, with German live music playing, diners enjoying their meals, eating outside made me feel hungry. Decided on a German Experience lunch. After all Hahndorf is a German town. I chose from the menu, Cheese Kransky, deluxe Vienna Bockwurst, with a German potato salad, Hahndorf pretzel and German mustard. Huge meal, very well prepared. The service was good, without an overdue delay. Finished off with a genuine German beer, which had me leaving very comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of my meal $14.90 and available all day. .
Just as well we were hungry! The serves were huge. We ordered the mixed grill which consisted of a Kaessler pork chop, two different wursts, sauerkraut and potato salad. The Kaessler pork chop was at least a double chop and the wursts were huge with a pile of sauerkraut. Everything was delicious. We also ordered a serve of lemon pepper squid which was not good - it was soggy and drizzled with sweet chilli sauce. Even though it was an extremely busy long weekend the staff were efficient and the food did not take long to come out. They also have house beers which were good.
It was only a couple of months ago we had dinner here and I gave it an outstanding review, but this most recent trip we did was the total opposite (maybe because it was breakfast - different staff, cooks, menu? who knows...)
But I guess it's like that with all places, some days are good some days could be bad, you never know. Such a pity though because we were all looking forward to brunch that morning. The service was down, the staff were loud, and when they were speaking to each other you can tell there was some grumpiness in all their tones. As for the food this is regarding breakfast.. I don't really want to say it, but it wasn't that great. We especially didn't like the pancakes. We've had better breakfasts at the same price elsewhere.
