This was a cool little bar that I recent discovered as I was going to visit the Palace Cinemas (which happen to be the only Cinemas in the city these days). At first I thought I could get a bite to eat, but they really only serve finger food. However, as a bar it actually isn’t all that bad. Sure, it is more of a cocktail bar, but they also serve craft beers, and that is certainly something that I can deal with. The service was also pretty cool, and they did have a pretty decent selection of not to common beers either.
The Howling Owl has moved and unfortunately the new premises don't quite have the ambience as the old premises - it's not quite as cosy. However, still the same great selection of gins. The staff are still really knowledgeable and are happy to talk you through their extensive drinks menu. Drinks are still prepared with care.
Loved the atmosphere and the staff were great. Good beer and wine selection but the fact that they only stock gin makes this place one of my favourites. The gin cocktails that I had were outstanding. We had some cheese and meat plates as well - a relatively expensive way to eat but great quality and all SA produce. Can see this being a regular haunt.
