The Illawarra Brewery
The Illawarra Brewery is located down by Wollongong's beautiful south beach. It is the first brewery in the Illawarra and makes beers that are chemical and preservative free. The food is contemporary Australian with a selection of bar food and tapas plates to share, as well as outdoor barbecues.
Popped in here for Sunday lunch. The steak was delicious - tender meat and perfectly cooked. The soft shell crab burger was interesting but could have been better. The slaw was served in the bun which made it soggy, also needed a salad served with it as there was not enough veg in this meal. Overall the food and atmosphere was OK, the food took longer than expected to be served but a lot of meals came out at the same time so perhaps everyone ordered at the same time.
Firstly although not a local I have previously been to the brewwery and loved it. Sadly things seem to have changed. Got there are got some drinks with quick friendly service and beers were all good. It went downhill when we went to order food. The five islands brewing company was truly a great experience where i was able to sit down and observe the Illawarra's beautiful coast while enjoying a beautiful steak and one of there refreshing and delightful beers. The beers at the brewery where a very new experience because they gave no hangover effects whatsoever and i heard they were low carbohydrate which amazed me even more. On to the food , the food was great my wife and i both had scrumptious meals that had a very modern Australian feel to them and were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The atmosphere at the brewery is great its a very friendly and enjoyable environment with the sea breeze blowing in and the dance floor providing endless entertainment. To conclude i would highly recommend the five islands brewing company to everyone young and old because it is just one of those places that is very rare to find and definitely a great experience.
On busy nights it is quite hard to find a seat and the brewed beer isn't very nice. One of my male companions likened it to the taste of meat. The food is upmarket bistro style, if that's even a style because there is nothing upmarket about bistro style. The only stand out at this venue is the view and you'll pay for it.
