As one given to the lavish use of superlatives and torrents of gushing hyperbole (not to mention a few overly-ornate metaphors here and there), I'm going to describe my experience at Kallista Deli in the most neutral language I can muster, thus allowing my word-weary readers to make up their own minds. It all started when my companion and I wandered in, in search of a good-value lunch. The air inside was warm and smelt indescribably 'gourmet', while the decor fell cosily between the extremes of cluttered and antiseptic. The range of food on offer was varied and appetising. We were tempted by home-made pies and sausage rolls, soup, quiche, and polenta slice, but decided to take on a small deli platter between us. The take-away prices were very reasonable for deli fare (pies less than $5), though everything cost almost double when served with cutlery, crockery and salad.
