The King Of Tonga

This little Elwood gem is a perfect little speakeasy with a fantastic selection and knowledgeable staff. It’s worth mentioning I was there tonight, and was impressed at how efficiently management handled an unfortunate situation with an angry patron.
This little bar is a warm safe haven in the winter and a perfect place to dive into a bottle of red and just relax. I highly recommend.

I returned to the King of Tonga during a hot spell in Melbourne and had a really great time. Although it's small and a teensy bit cramped, if theres' a good crowd, it's intimate and fun. If you are looking for privacy, don't come here! But otherwise, it's also a great place to get to know locals. My only complaint is the food is extremely limited- ok if you're after sausages or cheese and crackers but there's nothing for vegetarians and nothing even remotely "healthy" :)

Literally a hole in the wall establishment, I came after a stressful day to unwind on the way home. The bar itself is cute and the drinks are fine, the problem is it's so small that it's often uncomfortable, you get all the passive smoke and you really couldn't bring your friends. It is also very hot inside due to the cramped space. Also, I live locally and find on friday and saturday nights drunks roam the streets for hours and keep me awake!

This place is right across the road from my house and whilst is a very small bar with a big group of locals don't let that put you off. Great drinks, great vibe.



Not the kind of place where you'd take a group of people, great for just one or two though.
