This was a very noisy cafe- a wood fire and friendly staff helped compensate.
The prawn skewers entree on rice were generous and delicious, however the salt and pepper calamari, although tender, were overdone in either burnt or stale oil. Inedible. The mains: the scotch fillet was tough and although the flavour was great, the toughness took away any enjoyment. My grilled haloumi and salad was superb, they omitted the chips (a good move as the salt and pepper calamari was deep fried in the burnt oil) so I thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
The wait staff was lovely but had trouble getting things right. Service was relaxed - the place to go if you are not in a hurry!
A group of us went there last night. We all agreed it was the worst meal we've ever had out. Risotto was completely tasteless (and I don't mean just bland...completely without taste!), steak sandwich was too full of fat to eat and chips seemed to have been cooked several times over so they were burnt. The lamb dish was more gravy than actual meat. When we gave some feedback (very politely I might add) we did not even get an apology.
It's hard to understand how a place can get it so wrong for an entire table (and even harder to understand that there are positive reviews of the place). I would suggest giving this place a wide berth until they take some responsibility and start tasting their food before sending it out.
My friend and I had dinner tonight and there was a 40 minute wait for entrees. My main meal was incorrectly written as a grilled rather than beer battered fish, when I asked for the beer battered fish, I waited another 25 minutes only to find that the staff indicated that they didn't think that I wanted the beer battered fish after all. They didn't charge me but this is beside the point. The staff were apologetic but the other staff were not interested in providing an apology. We live locally and notice that this place is mostly quiet and thought we would give it a go but were bitterly disappointed and will never go there again. The thai place is far superior. We want to support local businesses but felt that this place was interested in our return custom. We won't go there ever again and a shame for the business as we eat out on a regular basis being professional people.
There is a typo in the review, I wanted to portray that I felt that this place was Not interested in our return custom. The staff was apologetic, however, that staff didn't take the order, the other staff took our order and then avoided us when we went to pay the bill!
Visited The Long Road on Saturday for a late afternoon meal, my partner and I ordered beer battered blue grenadier with hand cut chips and salad. After a long wait we received our meals to be bitterly disappointed. The fish wasn't blue grenadier, the chips weren't hand cut but commercial and worst of all, one serve of the fish was burnt.
We certainly wont be going back, much better places to visit in the area.
Hello, I am the owner of The Long Road Bar and Restaurant. I heard about this last night and I want to say that we are very sorry that you experience was a bad one. We had just opened and I had a new chef who claimed to have had 19 years experience but some how managed to burn your food and to also let a portion of our kitchen on fire and after you left we had to close our restaurant and we in the process of cleaning and are hoping to reopen tonight. He is no longer employed by us. Once again we are very sorry and hope you will give us another go.
