Like returning home, visiting the Mailing Room Cafe-Roastery-wholesale. We were looking forward to our return visit after a space of two years, we were not disappointed. we ordered the Organic Crumpets and new to the menu, a special Mr Krabs’ Crab Cake Sandwich. Both serves were perfect. The coffee at the Mailing Room is one of the top 10 in Melbourne, just first class. The visit was well worth the effort and we shall return.
While in Melbourne we again visited the Maling Room Cafe. We chose with our coffee, the organic crumpets, organic food is a part of their new focus. The key to their popularity is the consistency of their coffee and the organic crumpets were excellent, the service was good. Noticed and photographed two copies of the awards from The Age Good Food Cafe Guide 2013. Best Boutique Roaster and Cafe, Well worth the visit
After a years absence we returned to the Maling Room which was formerly the Canterbury (technically the correct reference to this heritage listed building) Post Office. The huge stained glass windows from its formers identity, are now it's prominent decor feature. The Cafe was just as busy, the food and service were excellent. Andrew the owner, roaster, coffee mentor, within the trade, has managed to maintain this consistency. For an excellent coffee and cake, or a good selection of breakfast or lunch dishes, your expectations will be fulfilled. When in Melbourne this is a definite visit for us.
As we walked up Canterbury Road, anticipating enjoying a tasty lunch, just before we turned the corner into Mailing Road the aroma of roasted coffee, heightened our anticipation. We ordered, Classic scrambled eggs with French cultured butter & cream. An absolute delight to eat, plus a very generous serve. Also The Signature Platter, smoked salmon & house made Trout rillette served with guacamole, cucumber, dill cream cheese & beetroot relish. Once again a generous serve, well presented, extremely delicious. The coffee was up there with the best, on enquiry, it was a house blend, roasted and prepared by Andrew the owner. The service was excellent, prompt and very efficient. We chose to eat inside, good size tables, comfortable seating, with the option of eating outside if desired. The ambience was good with an understandable busy vibe by locals and shoppers. This cafe ticks all the boxes.
