The Moat

Great little underground bar beneath the Wheeler Centre is a smallish but stylish venue that has a literary feel. Always busy "outside" and an intimate "inside." Never had a meal there but on this occasion enjoyed an Espresso Cocktail. Great little Melbourne nook to take interstate guests for a drink.

The Moat is a nice little venue that's tucked away just under the beautiful State Library. I had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch here recently. I found it so lovely and welcoming. I really enjoyed the simple menu that didn't overwhelm me with too much choice. There are tapas options that are worth trying and for me, I had a Beef and Red Wine pie which I inhaled oh so quickly, the relish was force not to be reckoned with! Negative points for the the toilets which need a good spruce up I feel. I will be back here though very soon, even for after work drinks maybe on a nice summer evening.

I come here relatively frequently for lunch, coffee or a Friday drink. The menu is well thought out, the ingredients good and the staff on the ball. The owners have got the vibe right. Don't miss the happy hour!
