The Picnic
Located in Burwood park, this cafe has one of the best settings. With a semi enclosed seating area filled with greenary, flowers and fairy lights, you fill bright and happy by just being here. Menus were brought out promptly and service is friendly. There is a lot of delicious sounding items, many with a Middle Eastern touch to it. We ordered the very popular Shakshuka, which was tasty with a generous amount of thinly sliced sujuk on top. The cured salmon with popcorn fritters was beautiful to look at & a light, refreshing dish. The special of the day was Fatteh - a salad with a whole wedge of roasted pumpkin, chickpeas, pomegranate & a light tahini based dressing. It was a nice dish but lacked oomph and flavour. The extremely pretty pavlova hotcake tasted as good as it looked. One very high, fluffy hotcake is topped with passionfruit curd, mango ice cream, fresh fruits & edible flowers. This was dish of the day. There is also a myriad of hot & cold drinks like ...read more
I was looking for a breakfast option in Burwood and there was a dearth of choices. This is located in Burwood Park opposite Westfield Burwood. It was a nice day and there was a lot of people already seated. It took a while for them to seat the people waiting as all the staff were busy running around attending to people.
Once they acknowledged and seated me, the service was actually pretty good and making sure I was okay. I started off with Watermelon & Lychee. It was cool and refreshing and had a nice base of watermelon juice with hints of strawberry and lychee. I had a Breakfast Burger. At first i thought it was pricy at $17.90 for essentially a bacon, egg, and cheese roll with a hash brown. It came out and it was a generous filling inside the soft bun. The hickory sauce had a nice ...read more
The Picnic ticks all the boxes. Set in a park with easy access to Burwood Road and the railway station. It's a beautiful spot with with trees, lots of green grass nearby and also a playground to bribe the kids to eat their food up quick. I tried the Pavlova Hotcakes and it eats as good as it looks. A Burwood Burger with its wagyu patty is spot on, particularly the secret sauce with a nice hit of mustard. Their "cool down" selection of drinks are delicious too. Try the watermelon and lychee, a standout. The kids are looked after too with 4 brekkie options and 3 lunch options. Tip get there after the afternoon rush or get in early.
Came here one chilly morning and it ended up being one of the most delightful and cosiest experiences. Blankets were on offer, the heat lamps were beaming plus the warm smiles from staff topped it. The food was incredibly decorative with extremely generous portions and super tasty too.
