although i can apprciate the challenges of running a cafe in rural victoria there are a few things that disapponited me about this cafe which we have frequented alot in past years. firstly this cafe was the only one open labour day long w/e in foster which is a suprise as it's when they would make alot of business. also we got there at 12noon and there was no beef available for the beef sandwich (gippsland is known for beef country and it's easy to keep in fridge), there was only enough chicken for 1 thai salad left? we had the sweet potato and lentel soup which was yum although still served with unhealthy, cheap white bread (there is a bakery around the corner) and we never got our thai chicken salad 9we ordered so gave up. manager was very flustered as usual and not very friendly, waitress was a bit nicer and they were not that busy. its a shame as it's a nice cafe with a live music venue, but i do understand how it's a challenge running any cafe let alone one in a ...read more
had lunch here during victoria's long weekend in march. always enjoyed their Thai chicken salad $17 here so ordered this but not as enjoyable as has been in past. also ordered the sweet potato and lentel soup with garlic and herb toast on specials board which was really nice but served with cheap white bread. we ordered the rare roast beef sandwich with horseradish and greens and tomato which was good too. food is not cheap here for serving size and ingredients but I can appreciate it's very challenging running a caf at a regional country town, as it was not very busy this long weekend in foster. waitress was very pleasant, but owner/manager not so friendly. coffees OK
picturesque cafe in country town serving home made fresh light meals for breaky and lunch, venue also has live music inside and outside from time to time.food is nice (limited menu) but prices are a little expensive for serving size even for a cafe having mostly seasonal holiday traffic. $12.50 roast garlic and red wine beef sandwich with beetroot relish and horseradish, $9 banana sandwich with datse, sunflower seed and yoghurt and honey, $16.50 thai chicken salad, iced coffees are with coffee syrup rather than real coffee (its easy to have premade coffee in fridge to use and tastes so much better). staff always freindly, hot coffees good, one of best cafe in town
