The Rice Den is conveniently situated only a few minutes walk away from St Leonard’s station, serving up an interesting take on Cantonese cuisine. We’ve wanted to visit this small restaurant for a while and my girlfriend decided that my birthday would be as good an occasion. Everything about The Rice Den felt well-thought out from the decor to the flavour and textures of the dishes. We also enjoyed the high level of service given by the attentive and professional wait staff. They did a great job clearing our plates as soon as we finished, worked with the great kitchen staff to time our dishes perfectly and even replaced our napkins before we asked. Our experience at The Rice Den was a refreshing change from the dingy, badly lit Chinese restaurants we’re used to.
Still a good place to eat, the Chatswood branch now closed.
The special of pork belly was good, somewhat pricey, but, I guess it's labour intensive to make this dish. Noodles for an entree were ok, but I regret not buying the duck San Choi bao.
My drink from the bar was tasty but I think it could've been a slightly larger serving for the price.
Next time, I hope to try the French toast dessert, apparently it's a bit like a bread and butter pudding.
Tasty modern Cantonese cuisine with great customer service to match. Indoor and outdoor seating available.
Dishes we sampled were:
- Hand made cheong fun
, peanut sesame, hoisin sauce,
-Stir fry roast duck san choi bao (2 pieces),
-Rice wine cured ocean trout
with pickled fennel, ginger and soy sauce
- Broccolini with preserved mustard green
-Vegetarian fried rice
pickled radish
Vanilla coconut cream sago
, fresh passionfruit pulp, macadamia almond meal
- French toast dulce de leche, peanut crumble, mascarpone with matcha green tea
- Hong Kong milk tea crème brûlée with wafer crisps
All dishes were delectable and presented beautifully!
Big thanks to Naomi and the team at Rice Den for such an enjoyable experience and to Will and Yasmin for joining us for dinner :)
I have already made plans to go back!
