One of the house specialties here is the Railway Canteen Goat Curry ($26.50), and although it might sound a little dodgy, the dish is outstanding, slowly braised and falling off the bone into a rich tomato-based curry. The Butter Chicken ($22.90) is faultless, and a good litmus test of any Indian restaurant - couple it with the Butter Naan ($4.50) for a truly decadent experience. The Goan Fish Curry ($26.50) is another classic they seem to get just right. It tastes like the South – swimming in coconut cream and delicately spiced. I’ve always thought of Circular Quay as a bit of a suits-meets-seagulls good food wasteland, but this is worth getting on a train for. And make sure you visit the majestic bathrooms – there’s nothing train-like about them!

Decor is amazing!
Located right near the ferry wharf at circular quay, it might be easy to miss this little restaurant. It has a really nice, warm eclectic feel. You are created at the door by a vintage bicycle and when you take a trip to the bathroom you feel as though you have stepped back into time, with British India influences and a myriad of portraits and photos. The food here is really delicious and portions are larger than your typical Indian restaurant. We had the saffron chicken which was more like butter chicken, and the eggplant curry which was spicy but hearty and thick with onions and eggplant. The naan is amazing, try the garlic and herb or the mushroom and cheese. About $75 for two people and we left with warm bellies and happy hearts. Will come again!
The Spice Room occupies a very secluded corner of the otherwise busy area and not many people would probably think of this section when looking for something to eat. But that is what makes this place a gem.
Once I came inside, I was immediately transported to a high-end dining room filled with culturally relevant dcor and atmosphere. All the noises from the outside were kept away and replaced with the oriental music.
