The Spotted Cow

Michael, Dianne and the Coorey family welcome you to the 'New' Spotted Cow. The hotel has undergone a major refurbishment, the first since 1991. The revamped Spotted Cow is focused on catering for the changing taste of Toowoomba's increasingly sophisticated beer-drinks whilst maintaining the old world elements and their trademark service.

The hotel was first licensed in 1892, formerly known as 'The Lukona', it is now one of Queensland's iconic pubs. Owned and operated by the Coorey family for nine years, The Spotted Cow welcomes visitors from across Australia whilst fast developing a reputation as the benchmark for fine food on the Darling Downs.

The outstanding success of the 150 varieties of imported and boutique beers available at the Spotted Cow Cellars has been the inspiration for the latest development on the Toowoomba hospitality scene - 'Oropa' European Beer Cafe.

The Spotted Cow now features 'Oropa'. It boasts many of the authentic European items needed to replicate the theatre that is involved with serving these unique brews, including beer fonts imported from Belgium. The European beer range has been hand picked by Phil Coorey and the Oropa Beer Sommelier Ian Watson.

The Spotted Cow remains the 'Home of Rugby on the Downs' with the Vintage Jersey Bar set to be a haven for rugby fans.

The Coorey family's collection of rugby jerseys is the highlight of the bar with more than 60 vintage jerseys showcased. The jerseys have been donated by rugby players at all levels with the highlights of the collection being personally signed Wallabies and All Blacks jerseys. There's a special story behind each jersey and the Coorey boys; Phillip, Matthew, Frank and Andrew are always on hand and happy to share a few rugby

After a very emotional day at a funeral out of town, my hubby decided to take me to the Spotted Cow before we went on home. We had never been there before and we do not frequent pubs or the like as a rule, but we have often driven past and here was an opportunity to stop. We were very happy with the service, and surprised that it was not like the typical hotel, which we found to be very pleasing. While we waited for the restaurant to open, we were 30 early, we bought a drink and sat in a beautiful room off to the side where we had some privacy. The food was ordered and serviced in a reasonable time. It tasted beautiful. We were surprised at the number of Reserved Tables around us and were told that it was very popular and to book ahead is often advisable. We will be returning to the Spotted Cow, next time we are in Toowoomba.

Went here for a first date, and the waitresses provide very good friendly service and the meal was well cooked. I heard that there are poker nights here, and they are very popular amongst university students. the spotted cow is also not very far from Margaret Street, the toowoomba city centre, so going to the theatre, other clubs and restaurants is always easy on a Saturday night. The interior design of the Cow is also well done :)

I agree it can be a little expensive and is really a place for a few pre dinner drinks or a special occasion, however we thought the meals were fantastic and the renovation makes it a very trendy place to go and be seen. Having lived in France for some time, we love the Mussels in white wine garlic sauce in the traditional buckets, and if we had a greater expendable income we would go there all the time.

Sunday dinner at Spotted Cow with my partner. No atmosphere, full lights & no music.
Bruschetta for entre very basic, tomato, onion and buttered bread stick, small sprig of parsely for entire plate! Where was the basil, garlic, olive oil & balsamic?????
The dissapointment followed with the mains.
Service with a smile but had to wave them down for drinks.
Over priced & very dissapointed!
