Food was not edible, drinks undrinkable, and staff, manager, chef and owner who do not care! Paid a lot of money and left without consuming a thing!
We ordered ceasar salads, one chicken, that was so old and dry, both filled with burnt bits of bread - assume they were meant to be croutons!- neither had Parmesan, the smallest trace of dressing, and mine was strangely filled with chunks of old tomato and huge bites of red onion. When I asked the waiter about my salad he said he'd never had a cesar salad so didn't know how they should come! When we sent the food back we were offered a piece of cake! No replacement meals, no apology, no refund. We left our room temperature iced coffees on the table and our whole family left hungry - and were being stared at by all staff and chefs- who now had nothing to do as we we're the only customers - strange as it was 1pm on a busy Saturday in kalamunda! But understandable!

The Merchant was always my choice for girls get to gethers but it has gone down hill, service is so slow, coffee is not nice, cakes are very expensive and not always fresh, i had a sausage roll there once and after being microwaved, was impossible to cut thru, and also had a turkish bread that was hard and was not able to eat it, i really miss the organised staff and atmosphere and fast service of the original owners, but have recently found a new coffee shop up the road.

Not as good as it used to be although it has improved recently, an enjoyable place for a cuppa if your not in a hurry or too fussy about the coffee

Very relaxed atmoshpere and decent coffee, just be prepared for a long wait in the mornings. best to skip them if you're in a hurry.

I have been to the Merchant Kalamunda many times and enjoyed the food, coffee and customer service. However this all changed earlier on in 2010 when the cafe was taken over by new owners. It has gone down hill very fast. The coffee has changed, a new bean i think and it tastes terrible very bitter, the coffee makers themselves aren't much better they are very slow and it takes roughly 20minutes to get a coffee take away or dine in. I ordered a latte and it was awful it was lukewarm, bitter and the milk was bubbly quite simply it was crap. The prices for all drinks have gone up and i dont fancy paying $6 for a takeaway coffee. The food has changed and is very overpriced they now serve meals, i have tried one of these meals the Moroccan lamb and the lamb was cold and icy in the middle so i believe the meals are frozen and just wacked in the microwave. I dont appreciate paying $15 or so dollars for a meal that is defrosted in the microwave. The service is extremely slow ...read more
