The Tea Cosy
Scones and tea like nanna used to make!
The Tea Cosy brings you classic devonshire tea the old-fashioned way. We use only the best quality ingredients and sides. Scones are made from scratch baked daily and served with Australian made jams and real double thickened cream. Our tea is served in loose leaf pots with quaint tea cups, and of course, beautiful hand made tea cosies!
Housed in a typical 1870s Victorian terrace, The Tea Cosy was once the home of a merchant seaman and his wife. The Tea Cosy feels a bit like visiting Grandmother’s house. The upstairs rooms are populated with mismatched tea sets and chairs, knitted tea cosies, and unfinished baskets of knitting resting here and there. The drawcard is the freshly baked scones, pulled out of the oven at particular times each day, as indicated by scone o’clock on their chalkboard. You can enjoy the scone flavours in the day in The Tea Cosy Tasting for Two ($45), a tiered platter bearing four scones, six ribbon crust-off sandwiches, two choices of jam and a pot of double thick cream. An adorable tea house located in the The Rocks. I visited here as the Aroma Festival was on and being a coffee lover, I had to try any place in the area that might have had a special menu or offering due to this.
Once you step inside this place, you feel transported to your grandma's house with the assortment of teapots, tea cosies, and knick knacks scattered around this multi story tea house. At first it seems kitsch but the baskets of knitting needles and yarn are quite endearing when you see people ...read more
Very cosy place at the Rocks. And very reasonably priced for the Rocks too. Came here for high tea and it was delicious. The scones were baked fresh and absolutely delicious. They have a various assortment of teas and you can order two types of teas per person. Love the little tea cosies you get on your teapot! If you plan on having a group get together here, there is a room hire charge (15+ people) plus you need to order the function set menu - there goes my idea of having baby shower here. Other than that, the scones and tea is enough to keep me coming back!
This place is wonderful. Looks quite unassuming from the front but once you see the sign that tells you what time the scones are baked then you will get very excited. They bake a few different flavours of scones so be ready to feast. I love the upstairs as it feels very tea house and if you can get a view on the balcony then sit back and relax.
