The White Horse
Downstairs is a motorcycle club slash man cave. The bar and back bar are made from hardened steel and recycled timber. Big chesterfield couches to sit on. Pool table in the corner. Neon bar lights to bask in. The bar offering is very masculine; The bar's focus is American whisky, we will be especially collecting Rye whisky, because we love our rye. You'll only find dark spirits on the bar downstairs. Lots of American beers and a solid offering of local and international craft beers, as well as some old favourites. The cocktails are boozy. The food is rustic and nourishing; a mix of gourmet burgers, lamb ribs, beef cheeks and lots of things slow cooked with love. We make our own sauces in house, if brave, try the crazy horse chilli sauce.
We've called it Lady Godiva's after the brave Countess who rode the White horse through the streets of Coventry. The bar is all white spirits; so a focus on Gin, Blanco rum and tequila and some Vodka thrown in as well. The cocktails are fresh and vibrant. Our aim is to use as little white sugar as possible, so sweetening drinks with agave and natural fruit sugars. It also has a juice bar element, so folks can come up to the bar, pick a spirit; then mix up any fresh fruit on offer that day. ...read more

Well, as far as beers go, this one certainly has some unique selections, particularly the Cumbumber beer. Honestly, Cucumber and beer really doesn’t go all that well together, but I am certainly not going to fault this pub for showing some risk and going for something different. It isn’t a large pub, but it certainly has it’s charm, and the staff are pretty cool as well. They also have a rooftop deck, which I didn’t get to check out, but I did get to try the cucumber beer (and no, it wasn’t that great).
Chicken and Sons Surry Hills is a Sydney institution of chicken and burgers. Chef Adam is truly a Sydney Chef/ Burger personality and his fine dining background adds a level of nuance that elevates the venues from the norm. If you live in Surry Hills or don’t mind some travel hit them up for the roast dinner on a Sunday and if you like decent burgs then get to any of their locations stat.

Had an engagement party here which was the whole of upstairs bit, which was pretty cool. The outdoor area is nice, but not really useful when it's raining as there's not much shading. The finger food that came out was delish. However my partner and I left our hat there and when I called up to enquirer about it, first they told us yes they had it but when we went there several times they said no, or they didn't know where it went. So had to forfeit them. Pretty annoying and disorganised.
Great for a night out with the ladies. Cozy spots upstairs and down, White Horse has a great assortment of nibblies, cocktails and good liquor. The music is not too bad and will have your head bobbing while waiting for your mates. The White Horse is ideal for pre's or to spend the night at. Just there for predrinks? Its location means you have an assortment of hotspots to meander on to afterwards. Definitely worth checking out if you are in Surry!
