Okay....the deal is - seems like owners & staff who have moved from the city and wanted a green change who really know how to make a delicious breakfast and great coffee. However one member of staff who continually ventured out the front of the shop to scowl at customers made everyone at our table feel very uncomfortable. When we complained we just got silence and a scared look. Warning to families with children - drive on, as they also SPEAK VERY LOUDLY out the back about despising kids. We have since spoken to other people who have stopped here and they agree about the staff member with the bad attitude. They must be really getting quite a reputation! My advice would be to have a nice simple breakfast or snack with friendly country folk who will make you feel welcome not a hinderance.
We discovered the Willow Tree Cafe on a previous trip to Qld and loved the display of muffins and cakes. We thought we would like to return. We left Tamworth at 8am and pushed on arriving in Tenterfield at 11 40 am. It was close to lunch so we decided to have a meal. We sat and sat but received no service and as we wanted to get to Brisbane decided on just coffee. We were served and each received our chosen cakes. We waited and waited and after finishing our cakes went up to the counter to ask again for coffee, in mugs. After apologies we received our cups of coffee, after we ordered mugs. We were glad to get anything at this point. The person serving seemed to be pre-occupied and not really interested. The cafe was not that busy. A young man did the best he could and he was busy with kitchen duties. . On our journey home we were served promptly at the bakery a few doors away. The Willow Tree Cafe was a disappointment. Travellers need to be welcomed.
