Have you ever been to an awesome restaurant or out shopping and the whole experience has been ruined by the music? This was the case when I dined at Torba in Brisbane before a concert. The restaurant is Eastern European and amazingly decorated but really let down by the music that night. I wish they'd just had a nice playlist going from an ipod or something. I'm really not into listening to "rubber ducky, you're the one" when out for a nice dinner (without my kids!)
I ordered the duck, which sounded delicious. (Not like a rubber ducky lol) The meals took a little while to come out as the restaurant was quite busy, and when they did, I was given crispy skin salmon. I told our waitress that I'd ordered the duck. She went back to the kitchen, then came back out with the salmon explaining she'd made a mistake. I could have the salmon, or wait another 20mins for the duck. I didn't have time to wait & didn't want to be eating when my friends had ...read more
Lovely restaurant offering Eastern European fare with a distinctly Russian & Ukranian flavour. Friendly staff.
I had a misfortune of recently finding out I'm allergic to all dairy (major catastrophe!) but the staff were more than helpful in removing the (much wanted) creamy garlic sauce and replacing the mash with baked potato.
The slow cooked beef cheek fell apart.
My sister ordered duck but was served salmon and seeing it would take 20 minutes to replace, had that instead.
My aunt enjoyed the dumplings.
The background music consisted of a guitar & keyboard duo who looked like they'd rather be anywhere else, and we couldn't believe when a tinny version of Rubber Ducky was played! So, we weren't a fan of the 'live music' option! Perhaps something with a more Eastern European feel would be more appropriate...
What a great almost burlesque interior. A small stage setup, wifi available, massive gothic mirrors, chandeliers and an overkill decor of purple patterns, fabrics, textures and details. Great place for cocktails... generally just a perfect location.
Russia's trademark dish..'blini', apparently the most common dish served in every household in Russia (the menu told me so). Drawn there by a street sign that said starters are $10 mon-wed, I ordered just the starter/blini and a cocktail called The Traditional... Aside from bitters... I can't recall it's ingredients. I will say, that the blini wasn't for me. The cocktail was for anyone, it was perfect. On that note, service was great, my honesty with the bi-lingual staff member was well taken.
