Turtle Cafe
Due to Elwood's 'Turtle Cafe' coffee laden menu, huge array of vegetarian alternatives, obscure name and kitsch and relaxed interior the cafe is a popular haunt for local hipsters.
Don't let that discourage you from visiting. I hear they're kind of okay when you get to know them. Besides, you'll be so caught up in enjoying your meal that you'll hardly care. An awesome place for brunch. I recently went to this little cafe on a brunch date. We ordered soy lattes (which was one of the best soy lattes I have ever had) and brunch meals. My meal was amazing, egg, salmon, pesto and avocado (I have added a photo). It was large and reasonably priced and delicious. Friendly staff and great customer service. Will certainly return!
The Turtle Cafe was an Elwood icon- a busy breakfast and lunch place with great food and good service. It reinvented itself after a terrible fire. I recently went to the Turtle and found the food had declined while prices had increased. I found the service to be good but the menu is quite limited and the quality of the food doesn't justify the price. I hope the Turtle will make another comeback and not turn into another bar!
