Terrible experience, the hairdresser didn't listen to what I wanted and was incredibly rough with my hair and scalp. She also talked over my head to the other hairdresser as I felt I didn't exist, then finished the drying in a fluffy way the opposite of what I wanted. I have straight, easy hair to work with, no idea how she made such an easy job so unpleasant to sit through. Do not recommend, customer service is not a priority, they just want to chat amongst themselves and treat paying customers as a nuisance.
These are my regular hairdressers because they're so good. The owner is a hair genius and knows what will and won't work on your hair, and will explain why. If you persist she'll cut it how you want, although I have seen her turn away someone who wanted to dye her hair but who had dyed and bleached it so many times in the past that it wasn't healthy enough to dye again - she gave that girl advice on how to get her hair healthy again before she left.
Sylvia gives me the best haircuts I've ever had in my life for half the price of some other salons, and is also a great colourist - my sister and other friends rave about her!
The reason I've given four stars is because I think the styling isn't as good as it could be - getting your hair curled made me look like Shirley Temple, and getting an updo, at least the time I did it, made me feel like I was going to my Year 10 formal. It's possible that other hairdressers there are better at that.
Hi I used to go there as well and enjoyed it. But they moved from Melb Uni. Do you know where they are now? I'm looking to get my hair cut again there if I can find them. Thanks a lot
Hopefully you'll see this marinaz, Sylvia closed the salon but she now has a chair at Matisse Hair Studio & Beauty Bar, 169 Pascoe vale Rd, Moonee ponds VIC 3039.
Good luck!
Worst haircut experience I've had in years. They very obviously do not know how to cut thick curly hair. Ignored my specific request for big layers and cut my hair a couple of inches shorter than requested. The hairdresser then preceded to blow dry my hair without a diffuser so I walked out of the salon with a straight fluffy frizzy atrocity on my head that she very bafflingly claimed was sooo much better than my original hair. A few days later and after I've rewashed it it still looks terrible, sure enough the layers were not enough and my hair looks distinctly triangular. Not only is the haircut terrible, the hairdresser was also unduly rough while combing and cutting my hair and I was left with a tender and scratched scalp. All in all an unpleasant experience. Avoid if you have thick hair, curly hair, don't enjoy your hair being aggressively attacked with a comb, or want a hairdresser that will actually cut your hair the way you want.
