Vaby's Mediterranean Grill

I recently went here for a birthday dinner, the food was lovely, service quick and attentive, the decor is very unique from alot of other restautrants in the area and has a very homey feel with a big fire place in the centre of the room, brick walls and cool bits and bobs scattered around. Love it!

Great location in the old "Fur & Feather" factory opposite the railway station. A lot of money was spent rebuilding the place with nice old beams, stone walls etc. Vaby's has a "family restaurant" type of menu - the food is usually plentiful, well priced and OK without any pretensions of grandeur. One wonders, given the size of the menu, whether they actually cook the food from fresh or bring it from elsewhere frozen and zap it on demand to some McDonalds style formula, and the service can be very slow.

Attended a wedding reception here, really nice little venue (guessing could hold about 80max). Entree was tasty selection but mb a bit small (2 platters per table of 8). Main was a choice of chicken with prawns which was delicious or steak which was incredibly undercooked (and this was true for EVERYONE on our table & the next) and really needed a gravy or something - was basically just a piece of meat with salt&pepper on top. Desserts were delicious - but to be honest the steak was so bad that I couldn't give it more than these 3*'s. Entertainment was average.
