Veludo used to be one of my go-to places on Acland Street but sadly deteriorated somewhat. The food is still good but it is mind-numbingly noisy at times and service seems to favour the young and funky. I took my elderly aunt there and we were ignored most of the time but other tables of younger people got speedy service.
seafood linguini with 2 prawns, calamari, fish, tomato and topped with crab claw in olive oil base $26 was nice. calamri salad $20 was also good. alos tried the steak sandwich $20 and the lamb shoulder $26 and chicken burger $18. food is pretty good here, maybe a tad expensive especially with so many eateries close by. espresso martinis $10. wall inside is unique made entirely with old wine bottles.
I returned to Veludo for brunch to find a lot has changed. The food is definitely not what I remember it to be- fairly ordinary. The service was really annoying- no one seated me, no one brought me water or asked if I would like a drink, the coffee which I had to remind staff to bring was not at all good. In the end I waited about 40 minutes for everythign to be organised and brought out. Yes, it was busy but customer service could have been a lot better. I used to enjoy Veludo a lot.
we had the Calamari salad $20 with quonia, carrot, flash fried salt and pepper calamari and the mediterrean lamb salad $20 with greens, cucumber, tomato, fetta, yoghurt (lamb nicely marinated). also had the Seafood linguine $28 green lipped mussels, half crab, calamari and prawns (seafood tasted fresh) in o/oli base (not a lot of seafood for price though), but very tasty. meals reasonabaly priced.
$5 boags beer special on tuesday night we visited, also tuesday night special was all you can eat buffet from 6pm which included rotti bread, pork curry, pasta with chorizo, and many more dishes served in bay marie which was good value. desserts were a bit boring (cheese platter, pannacotta, and 2 others) but there are so mamy cake places nearby it does not matter. iced coffees were a bit weak but nice. main meals dinner $20-$28, also have entres/tapalunch menu and breaky
