It is increasingly harder and harder nowadays, especially at Chatswood's main shopping area, to find good quality food at spare-change price (and we are not talking about franchised fast food options). So when I went past Vina Bakehouse at Westfield Chatswood's ground level food precinct, I almost could not believe my eyes that they are still serving the good old Vietnamese pork rolls at an amazing price of $5.5 (even other places less busy than Chatswood charges more than this).
It piqued my curiosity to order one of the bread rolls and see if they were really as good as the original. And it turned out that it was. This bakery has been in Westfield for many years, and with good reason. Shops that aren't serving decent food close. They have wonderful sourdough and plain baguettes, even half-sized baguettes. There's quite a lot of food to go, such as pizza slices, and little pizettes, a soft bread with a bit of say, ham and tomato or olives on top, and toddlers love these, great when kids get hungry and you don't have time for a sit down meal in a shopping mall. It's conveniently located close to the Spring Street exit, so, if you have a passenger and you're not planning to park, they can run in and grab your food. Also sell a few drinks. Must try the almond croissants, and the choc chip panini . Different stock here to other Vina, I assume they are owned separately. Those panini are legendary .
Vina Bakehouse stocks a great variety of breads- from your basic loaves and rolls to savory scrolls, pies, buns, slices and pastries. All are very nice and fresh. In particular their chocolate buns are yummy! Prices are typical of a bakery, <$1 for a bread roll and upto $3 for a savory scroll.
Only real negative is that it is cash only. This is really annoying if you don't have cash or just don't want change. This is the only reason I didn't give them five stars.
