After eating at many a Wagamama in Sydney and Melbourne, this store left us a bit cold. The meals are a bit haphazard, and are below par compared to the restaurants in this chain in other cities. For example, the Wagamama Ramen often comes with a variable and scarce smattering of meat, and the Katsu Curry is often proportioned differently, and the stir-fried udon dishes (yaki-udon) sometimes come with way too much oil. If done well, the meals are generally nice, if slightly overpriced, however recently it has been a real "cross-your-fingers-and-hope-for-the-best" experience. Overall, the standard of the food has dropped in recent years, and the interior is often sticky and dirty (particularly the floor). For the prices being charged, I really think they could be doing better -- much better -- like their bigger-city siblings. On the plus side, the staff are often very attentive, friendly and helpful, taking orders and serving up dishes promptly. For your ...read more
Went in for a quick lunch/snack on a quiet public holiday.
It was out first time to wagamama and unfortunately we will not be returning.
Although the waiting staff where fine, the dishes ordered were below average.
The chicken gyoza was clearly pre frozen and very unfresh.
The basic miso soup was to a level avaliable in most "just add water" super market soups.
The price of the menu clearly didn't reflect the quality of the food, as you would expect much more for the price.
On Thursday around 1.30pm we went in for lunch. The place was not even 1/3 full, with tables everywhere available, and we got told they were 'very busy' and were not seating anyone for at least 20 minutes. That must have explained why there were staff standing around doing nothing, it was so busy...
Not impressed
We often go here for a quick lunch. As other reviewers have stated, the meals come out at different times, and the waiting staff are a bit muddled, but friendly, and if you know this in advance, you wont get miffed! We like the food, it's Japanese style, but I wouldn't say authentic - there's a twist in the dish, however, the ingredients are always fresh, and you don't feel like you're eating stodge. I actually had the best cheesecake there today (for dessert) that I have found in Canberra for years. It's white chocolate and ginger, lovely flavour, not too sweet and, the texture was divine. We've enjoyed all our meals there, and will keep going back!
The surrounding atmosphere is modern, however it resembles a food court which is not the best for a get together that feels personalised. The ramen feels instant although the soup base is pretty nice. However after visiting with a few friends disappointed overall with how much we were getting for what we paid for, at least for ramen. Neverthless good service from employees.
