WAQU
In a plum location on the corner of the famous Five Ways at Crows Nest is Waqu, quite possibly the building was an old bank. I went as part of Good Food Month and so there was a set one course plus wine for a small amount, possibly $35, and so my fish dish was excellent . Service was friendly but not gushing, that's ok, Japanese folk don't tend to gush. We paid for extra drinks to wash it all down.
I had lunch here earlier today with my mother as part of the Good Food Month Le't Do Lunch program (on Mon-Fri through Oct).
$38 a person got us each a glass wine/beer/sparkling water, a small soup, sashimi main dish, and a coffee/tea.
The food was absolutely lovely and nicely present. The service was fine.
We started with an onion soup, served hot in a martini glass with olive oil - odd combo/presentation but delicious!
This was followed by salmon sashimi, marinated in a vinegar and served with what looked/tasted like popped wheat, mango dressing and small salad.
The main was a choice of fish or beef.
We both opted for the beef. It was a good sized serving and the beef was soft and really quite tasty.
We left content - not wanting more but not overly stuffed either.
There's free 2 hr parking around the corner in a small parking lot.

We arrived there a little early and waited until their opening time but their big restaurant door was still locked. We waited for another 5 minutes and had to ring the restaurant to remind them to open for business for the night. Anyway We booked their private room with 6 course autumn menu and some of us also had the matching wines option. ...read more
