Waterholes Guest House
An excellent first or last night experience for travellers on the Sydney to Melbourne Coastal Drive or the Great Alpine Road Waterholes is especially attractive to lovers of nature, peace and privacy. Overseas visitors who wish to make every minute into a unique experience of Australia will value even one night here. Short walks leading out from the guest house wind through a variety of unspoiled Australian ecosystems - forest, wetland, river and grassland on the upper reaches of the Nicholson river, north east from Bairnsdale. Wildlife includes kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, four of Victoria's five gliding possums, lots of frogs and over a hundred and ten bird species. Accommodation is limited to three large studio suites independent of the homestead. Each is individually designed and decorated to delight the senses with king size beds, ensuites with showers and a large bath. Private balconies which look out into the natural surroundings offer each suite a shady summer retreat. In cooler weather a large sunny deck with a chimneys for starlit evenings catches warmth. Each suite will accommodate a couple in spacious comfort, but will also provide uncrowded accommodation for up to four singles travelling together. A short garden walk leads to the guest's sitting room with library and fireplace. Meals can be taken in the dining room, outdoors or in private suites depending on the preference of guests. This establishment far exceeded our expectations. It is set in a beautiful valley, surrounded by natural forest and nestling by the headwaters of the pristine Nicholson River. The environment is complemented by the luxury guest houses only three on the property.
