To see African animals, the Werribee Open Range Zoo is the place to go. We went mid-week during school holidays on a sunny day and it was very crazy at the entrance and to get on the Safari tour. We're talking about a 30 minute wait to get in the zoo, unless you have purchased online tickets or have a membership, in which case it was about a 10 minute wait. The Safari tour is a must-do in order to see certain animals that you won't see in the main part of the zoo, such as the camels, bison, giraffe, rhino, ostrich, zebras and addax, and the driver gives informative commentary along the way. That said, the wait in the line for the Safari tour was about 20 minutes on this busy day and staff don't even ensure that all seats are filled which is annoying to see when there are so many people waiting. We didn't see the gorillas at all, well, maybe just what appeared to be a mound of a sleeping gorilla, but we did see the lions, although they were sleeping, and same goes ...read more
Werribee Zoo is amazing! It makes you feel like you are in Africa, in the Savannah with these beautiful wild animals. It's incredible to see these massive and rare animals outside of cages and almost a little scary! The bus safari is well worth the extra money and is wonderful and evocative. There's lot to do and I thought the food was quite good. It's quirky having a snack with curious animals including those cute meerkats staring at you. For kids, this is an adventure wonderland.
One of favorite Zoo in Melbourne. I took my little one here a few days ago and really like the overall layout and the open range that it offers parents/children to enjoy the day. The restaurant directly at the front is also in a great location, providing microwave available for parents to heat up food for the children. We absolutely enjoy the safari and have always had great views of the animals, the information provided during the ride are educational for both parents and children on board. They run regularly through the day also. I highly recommend this Zoo for anyone who hasnt as yet visit, or even better to obtain one of the annual passes which Ive made a lot of use of over the many months since weve had it.
Always a great place to come back and visit to take my son over summer holidays. Werribee Zoo is one of my sons favourite place to visit and also for us as parents because it keeps my son occupied and distracted. On this busy day there was a line to get in and there was a long line to the safari bus ride. So many families and so many kids in for the same thing. Werribee zoo has a great pinic area so you can enjoy a nice lunch with food from home as food at the zoo is expensive so again on this busy day i think everyone did the same thing because finding a nice shady spot to enjoy lunch was hard to come by. Overall come prepared and well packed for a long day of activities and adventures especially for the kids.
Love this safari park. You need to travel out of the city to get there, but it is so worth it. The safari park is big and spacious with loads of animals. Love the safari trucks that drive you around the park so you can view the animals like rhinos, deers and giraffes close up. In particular I love the hippo enclosure, it is so detailed and so beautifully done and the animals look so happy and relaxed. Great big coffee shop to have a break and grab some food. Also there are beautiful grounds, tables and chairs to have your own picnic should you so desire. Gift shop stocks many quirky souvenirs priced to suit everyones budget. The Meerkat enclosure if awesome and can be viewed from inside the caf whilst you are having lunch. Awesome place to visit for young and old.
