White Taro

I wouldn’t really say that this is one of those fantastic coffee shops that I like. It was okay but there really wasn’t all that much that grabbed my attention. The tea that I had was okay, but nothing that really made it stand out from all of the other places that I had visited. The staff themselves were also friendly enough, but it really isn’t a place that I’d be hurrying back to.

The problem with Sydney's Vietnamese cuisine is that it looks so fresh and vibrant in photos, we can be lured, by platforms like Instagram, into thinking a restaurant is going to be great, then arrive to find the dishes lacking in flavour. I have no such complaints about the offerings put out by Angie Hong, mother of Executive Chef Dan Hong, who you’ll likely know from Mr Wong, Papi Chulo, El Loco or Ms G’s. Arising some years after Angie Hong sold the last of her Thanh Binh restaurants, this short-term, night time pop-up at White Taro in Surry Hills affords you a rare opportunity to eat at her dinner table. A surprisingly long menu provides plenty of choice for meat eaters and vegetarians alike in this tiny, homely corner-store cafe. You should hit up the Vietnamese Deep Fried Rice Paper Rolls ($12/3). This place is incredible!! It is a small little cafe nestled I the heart of Surry hills. It offers a modern take on Vietnamese.
The rolls are so delicious..the meat is the absolute star. Highly recommend!

Vietnamese Ninja!!!This little café located in the Surry hills offers a Vietnamese influence on the menu, surprising it does pretty well and I do hope it stays this way.We order 2 dishes, the deconstructed 'Banh mi' to me this was pretty expensive since it was $19. On a platter there was porkbelly, pate in a jar, pickled items and a dinner roll. I do see the time an effort went into this dish but I cannot justify the price and the food. It wasn't great and I would not recommend this dish.The next dish was the chicken skewer burger, now this dish was great because it was packed with flavours and was interesting. The chicken skewers was tasty and flavourful but the buns were dry, seems like it was left outside for awhile.will be back to check for improvements and try out other dishes.... Cute little cafe in Surry Hills. They serve a range of breakfast and lunch items that are healthy and tasty. They cleverly fuse Vietnamese and western flavours in their dishes which I found really interesting.
