Wild Yak Tibetan Restaurant
It is not often that you can find Tibetan cuisine on offer. In Brunswick Street that is exactly what the Wild Yak restaurant does. This is a rare opportunity to taste Tibetan cuisine. If you have a sweet tooth then the sweet lentil cake with exotic sauce can tempt you. If you are looking for something fiery try the sha katsa which is beef marinated in soy sauce and spices. Let your taste buds be the judge.

Everyone is raving about Wild Yak’s momo dumplings, and after trying them for the first time I see why. The food in this little gem of a place is delicious, generous and very reasonably priced. Décor is pleasant and interesting, with an authentic Tibet Himalaya feel. The restaurant is patronised by Tibetans as much as Australians, which means it’s the real deal. The superb food has something of Nepal, India and China, but also something of the uniqueness of Tibet. I was surprised how well-rounded Tibetan food is, with dishes that could be European, to dishes indistinctly Asian, all served with a warm friendliness. A variety of beers are available but you BYO wine. Accessibility is excellent as the tram runs right by it and parking is easy enough to find in adjacent backstreets. They have an interesting little library of books and albums about Tibet which are worth a browse if you have time to linger. Overall, highly recommended.
I came with no expectations as I'm a fairly fussy diner but was pleasantly surprised by the tasty food and Tibetan specialties, like the butter tea. It's a friendly place with lovely staff who really want you to enjoy your evening. Some of the curry dishes are really tasty and the menu has some interesting choices that you definitely won't see anywhere else!
I had never eaten Tibetan food before dining here, and I definitely was not disappointed. The food was lovely, and there was a great selection of dishes to choose from. I will be going back to the Wild Yak Tibetan Restaurant to try something else soon. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and a nice, relaxed atmosphere.
