Wilsons Promontory National Park
The Prom is one of Victoria's most-loved places. At the southernmost tip of mainland Australia, it offers spectacular scenery of huge granite mountains, open forest, rainforest, sweeping beaches and coastlines.
A lovely national park and increasingly popular tourist destination. About a 3-4 hour drive from Melbourne without traffic. The roads might be a bit confusing and windy. The national park itself is massive but some areas are off road and can only be hiked to. The area is also poorly developed regarding infrastructure for tourism with only 1 small tourist centre and cafe at Tidal River and a general store and food store closer to the entrance. Limited overnight stay cabins but plently of camping spots
Wilson's Prom is a beautiful national park, rich with wildlife and scenery. Squeaky Beach has sand so fine it literally squeaks when you walk on it! This is a great outdoor destination however I would avoid it in very hot weather as the comforts of home are far away and park rangers don't routinely pick-up the heat-stressed and tired! It's a long-ish drive from Melbourne so if you plan to stay overnight, book well ahead.
