I was UTTERLY DEVASTATED when my local supermarket (IGA Renaissance - St Kilda) was replaced with a woeful Woolworths.
I have grieved about this loss ever since!
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission view at the time of the proposed change in January 2014: ACCC "preliminary view is that the proposed acquisition may result in a substantial lessening of competition as it would remove the only independent full-line supermarket in the local market" has borne ...read more
Woolworths took one of the best supermarkets in Australia, and turned it into one of the worst. Although they have kept many of the staff from the previous supermarket, they have removed all of the interesting, gourmet produce by small, niche, quality producers and replaced it with Woolworths brand stuff. So in the past, there would be excellent, interesting breads from artisan bread makers, sour dough, etc. Now there is Woolworths brand 'gourmet' bread. This review is spot-on! You now have to try order those wonderful niche products at the online website and often they are out of stock. By the way, the organic range offers no certification that I can see of its organic provenance.
Bravo for your accurate review.
All us locals from St Kilda and West St Kilda are still grieving for our loss of Renaissance IGA Supermarket.
I never realised how lucky we were until Woeful Woolworths took over our supermarket and converted it into BLAND, BORING and LIMITED CHOICE.
I now trek out to Hawthorn for the Renaissance IGA out there.
Lovely helpful staff and good produce overall. Unfortunately a lot of products are being replaced by brands owned by Woolworths. Apart from that management needs better security as many local shoppers now avoid shopping in the evenings as that is when the more troublesome element in the area manifests. No one wants to be hassled by these types.
what type do you speak of ? i shop at night as i try to avoid your type. and woolworths have ruined what was once a great place to shop, once you would hear good blues or jazz playing now you hear new kids on the block!!! once there was good eggs, now all gone, ruined
